Integration into society is a project based off to help integrate ex-convicts into the society and my space serves to help people understand the journey of reintegration as well as experience what an inmate went through to be empathic with them.

DESIGN PROCESS:

My space is developed from the concept of a flower, just like the saying "turn over a new leaf". I believe that everyone deserves a second chance. The journey also focuses on telling a story about the ups and downs, the successions and the failures that inmates may face while going through rehabilitation as well as re-integrating back into society.

SPACE I :

In the first space, users will walk through a long ramp which stimulates the anxiety and fear in the initial phase of becoming an inmate. There are graffiti all over the walls, with spike elements on the ceiling making the long dark corridor ramp even more intimidating. The walkway is also really tight with about estimated only 1 metre in width.

Sense Of Hope

SPACE II :

In the subsequent space, there is more light towards the end of the tunnel, but the view is still limited, with only the light entering through the skylight. In this space, users experience hope from the forms of life such as the greenery and the feelings and process they are going through during the in-care programme organised for them.

SPACE III :

In the third space, although still dark but there are more openings from the wall with the triangular forms that is visible to the users' eyes, allowing some form of light and visibility to the external world.

In the final space, users will be able to view digital talks featured on a digital curved screen panel as they walk down the stairs while also reading the posters. The contents of the digital talks are videos of stories of those

The final space led them back to the ground storey of the Bras Basah Complex in the middle of the Central Atrium to receive cheers and be accepted upon successful re-integration back into the society.

The model encompasses the quality of the design elements and speak of the tangible positive and negative spaces. With my spaces focusing on the play with lighting, models allow for great representation of the lighting effect for my spaces.
